Love was in the air at Central United Methodist Church in Detroit for Elise and Justin's wedding ceremony. Designated as a Michigan State Historic Site and listed on the National Register of Historic Places, CUMC is recognized as the oldest Protestant congregation in Michigan. We were especially taken with the ceiling tiles composed of over 230 panels of symbols of the Christian church. Those symbols were taken from the Temple of Heaven in Peking (China), the Mosque of Omar in Jerusalem, and the Vatican's Sistine Chapel and were painted by Thomas Di Lorenzo.
Long known and a "peace and justice" church and the site of several sermons by Martin Luther King, Pastor Jill Zundel continues the tradition and officiated Elise and Justin's ceremony. Bobbi, the church coordinator, was a marvel as she prepared the sanctuary for the wedding and assisted us with cues and seating.
The couple kept it traditional with classical music which fitted the church atmosphere. We had the pleasure of working with Dave and Ang Photography again. They do an amazing job and the couples they work with always seem relaxed. That's a talent!
Following the ceremony, a reception was held at the Book Cadillac with Cancel Monday as their band for the evening. You know that was a great party! Congratulations to Justin and Elise.
